Tennis Elbow Pain

Cliff Russell of Osteo Studio East Grinstead is experienced in treating tennis elbow pain. Tennis elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, is a common condition that affects many people, not just tennis players. In my experience, tennis elbow responds very well to osteopathic treatment.

What is Tennis Elbow?

Tennis elbow is a type of repetitive strain injury that primarily affects the tendons in the forearm, particularly the extensor carpi radialis brevis muscle. Despite its name, it can occur in anyone who repeatedly uses their forearm and wrist, not just tennis players. Activities such as typing, painting, carpentry, and playing musical instruments can also lead to this condition.

Tennis Elbow Pain:

Tennis elbow pain typically presents as a persistent and localized discomfort on the outer part of the elbow. The pain may range from mild to severe, and it often worsens with specific movements.

Other Symptoms:

In addition to pain, individuals with tennis elbow may experience other symptoms, including:

  • Stiffness in the elbow joint.

  • Weakness & difficulty in grasping or holding objects.

Tenderness to the touch at the lateral epicondyle.

  • Swelling or inflammation in the affected area.

Diagnosis

If you suspect you have tennis elbow, it is essential to seek a healthcare professional's evaluation. A diagnosis is typically made based on a physical examination, medical history, and sometimes imaging tests, such as X-rays or MRI, to rule out other conditions.
